A downloadable game

Team: Dominik Zieliński & Piotr Szlufik

Our game is being developed as part of a hackaton HackYeah 2024. Our goal was to create a game where lemurs, using modern technology, can do something good for the world. The result of our work is a prototype of a real-time strategy game. The main objective of the game is to maintain the global temperature at a level not exceeding 16.4°C by the year 2100, starting in 2024 at 14.9°C. The board consists of hexagons on which players can build various structures. So far, we have implemented the construction of wind farms, coal mines, solar panels, and reforestation initiatives.

In the future, we plan to expand the gameplay with additional technologies, such as algae farms, which will help keep existing coral reefs alive and combat global warming. An important element of the game is the gradual replacement of old technologies with new ones – at the beginning, players must rely on coal mines and factories that produce energy (the in-game currency) but also pollute the environment. The player’s task is to manage resources sustainably to reduce air pollution from 20% to 10%.

The game takes place across multiple biomes that interact with each other. Initially, these biomes include the ocean, desert, and forest/city. In the current version of the game, we are focusing only on the forest/city map, but in the future, players will face ocean biome challenges, such as water pollution, overfishing, ocean degradation, and biodiversity loss. The desert biome, on the other hand, will bring challenges related to water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and hurricanes.

The environment around the hexagonal board will dynamically react to the player’s decisions, reflecting the outcomes of their actions. If the player performs poorly, forests may catch fire, cities will be covered in smog, or rivers will dry up. The game ends if the global temperature exceeds the set limit, or if players successfully maintain the temperature within the proper range until the year 2100.
